Strength Training: Why you should do it?

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Do you wonder why so many people start going to the gym and doing Strength and Resistance Training? Well, the first reason may be to look thinner, lose weight, or gain muscle. But once they do that why do they keep going back?

It may not be just about appearance or how much they want to be able to lift.

#1 Pushing Yourself

It is no surprise the see that people that work out and do strength training are more likely to push themselves in their careers, relationships and there day to day lives. This comes down to them knowing that they can do what they put their mind to and know that when they put in the work they will reap what they sowed. This leads me to my next reason...

#2 Work Ethic

Being able to make it to the gym on a consistent basis even when you don't feel like going shows the type of character you have and that you can apply it to other areas in life such as at your Job. An example of this would be having a report due by the end of the week and making the time and knowing how you work effectively to get the report done on time. Even if you have a poor work ethic going to the gym can teach you how to develop it and will be able to apply it to your everyday life after that.

#3 Set Goals

When you are first starting to strength train you are finding what limits your body has on how much weight you can push or pull and from there you create goals to exceed those and to make new goals. This helps with your daily life and you use the same methods to push yourself through those goals. I can personally say that when I started strength training I was a lot weaker than everyone else and that I had to train a lot harder and a lot more often so I had to set goals to do so many sets and reps and learn how much volume I can move while building power in my movements. Setting these goals has taught me that having smaller more consistent goals allow me to see the bigger picture and not lose motivation.
